WALKHAMPTON

Walkhampton is a small moorland village standing above the tranquil Walkham valley on the south western edge of Dartmoor. It is situated approximately 12 miles from Plymouth and is in easy reach of the coast, the ancient stannary town of Tavistock and the Eden Project.

For daily needs, Walkhampton has a village shop and post office, and at Yelverton which is only a few minutes away, there is a small supermarket, butcher, baker, pharmacy and petrol station. The village also has a 17th century pub serving a variety of locally brewed ales and food.

Several moorland golf courses are within a short drive and there are also a number of riding stables nearby. Bicycle hire can be arranged.

DARTMOOR

Dartmoor, sometimes referred to as Britain's last wilderness with its 365 square miles of National Park, is readily accessable by car and on foot. The moor offers the experience of a varied history dating back to prehistoric times, the evidence of which can be explored in superb surroundings.

There are many National Trust properties nearby and the Garden House, featured in several television programmes, is only 3 miles away. The area also has many connections with Sir Francis Drake who was born near Tavistock.

The moors can be easily accessed on foot from Walkhampton by using a short network of historic monastic footpaths which start right outside Town Farm.
